CYG SUNRI/Sungrow/CATL Participate in the Pailou Grid-side Energy Storage Project in Jiangsu, and Make a New Record

With monitoring systems and energy storage coordinated controllers provided by CYG SUNRI, PCSs provided by Sungrow, and energy storage batteries provided by CATL, this grid-side energy storage project made a record in China.


On September 1, 2020, the Jiangsu Electric Power Control Center of State Grid organized Jiangsu Electric Power Research Institute and State Grid Huai'an Power Supply Company to successfully complete the dynamic test of rapid and coordinated power control of the Pailou Energy Storage Station in Huai’an, marking that China’s first millisecond-level energy storage coordinated control system is put into use.



The Pailou Energy Storage Station in Huai’an, invested by State Grid Integrated Energy Service Group Co., Ltd., is a 15MW/26MWh energy storage power station in a prefabricated cabin. The converters of the energy storage PCS are connected to the 10kV busbars through a three-winding step-up transformer, and 12 PCSs are connected to each busbar.


The manufacturer of the monitoring systems and the energy storage coordinated controllers is CYG SUNRI, the manufacturer of the PCSs is Sungrow, and the manufacturer of the batteries is CATL. This project is the first energy storage power station with successful power transmission in the second batch of grid-side energy storage projects of Jiangsu, and it is also the first grid-side energy storage project of State Grid Integrated Energy Service Group.



PCSs are used to coordinate and unify the control architecture, and the mode of "centralized monitoring + PCS coordinated control" is initiated to realize fast coordinated control of active and reactive power of all PCSs in whole station.



The field dynamic test shows that the response time of dynamic reactive power control by the energy storage coordinated control system is less than 30ms, the response time of power supply-grid-load interaction is 54ms, and the response time of primary frequency modulation is about 101ms, which fully meet the requirements of millisecond-level fast power regulation. On the basis of solving the problems of scattered PCS control, frequent actions and long regulation period in energy storage station, the system uses PCSs instead of SVGs for dynamic reactive power regulation, and further improves the performance of primary frequency modulation. Next the joint commissioning of the Pailou Energy Storage Station and the dispatching master station will be accelerated to put the energy storage station into practical application as soon as possible!
