He is Hou Lin from CYG SUNRI.


Hou Lin, a member of the Communist Party of China, graduated from Shanghai Jiaotong University with a master's degree in 2000. After graduation, he joined CYG SUNRI CO., LTD. (formerly Shenzhen Nari Technology Co., Ltd.), and served as an engineer of the Development Department, head of the System Group, Deputy Director of the R&D Center, Director of the Quality Control Center of SUNRI, Deputy Chief Engineer/Technical Director of SUNRI, and Deputy General Manager of SUNRI successively, and now he serves as Executive Deputy General Manager of SUNRI and Assistant to the President of Changyuan Group (CYG).


After joining the company, Hou Lin had been engaged in the development and application of substation monitoring systems and master station/centralized control software systems for a long time, and committed to the research and promotion of power system automation technology, communication integration technology, information system integration and Internet+ related technologies. He took charge of and participated in many major scientific research projects, the research results of which have been widely used in the industry. He won Guangdong Excellent New Product Award and Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Award, and was granted a number of invention patents. In 2013, he was recognized as a reserve talent in Shenzhen's high-level professional talent level certification. Moreover, Hou Lin serves as a member of the Distribution Network Working Group of the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Power System Management and Information Exchange and a member of the EPTC Power Information and Communication Expert Working Committee.


Fools don’t not know what has happened, while wise men foresee what will happen


Mr. Hou always gives original opinions and forward-looking suggestions for product R&D. In July 2017, the National Energy Administration and five ministries and commissions jointly issued the Guiding Opinions on Promoting Energy Storage Technology and Industrial Development, which specifies the overall requirements, key tasks and safeguard measures for promoting energy storage technology and industrial development in China. Mr. Hou immediately convened the R&D staff to hold a special conference on energy storage. He pointed out that "energy storage has changed the traditional mode of power use upon power generation. It is an important part of smart grid, and is the key support of smart energy, so it is necessary to launch a system-level solution for grid-side energy storage". According to Hou's instructions, the R&D team of CYG SUNRI focused on the cutting-edge technology and continuously tackled key technical difficulties, and developed the energy storage EMS of CYG SUNRI - "PRS-3000 Energy Storage Monitoring and Energy Management System", which was launched on the market at least 6 months ahead of similar products of competitors and got the upper hand. The energy storage EMS has passed many tests by State Grid Electric Power Research Institute, Jiangsu Electric Power Research Institute and KETOP Laboratory, and guaranteed the continuous, efficient and stable operation of the power station.


Don’t Stop No Matter How Rough the Road Ahead Is, Because Your Efforts Will Pay Off.


Sure enough, in 2018, the domestic electrochemical energy storage market experienced explosive growth, and the industry launched energy storage construction on a grand and spectacular scale.


The construction of grid-side energy storage was started in the east of Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province. Mr. Hou quickly organized capable marketers, R&D engineers and designers to bid for the project on site, and finally CYG SUNRI won the bid for the EMS project of Changwang Energy Storage Power Station. Changwang Energy Storage Station, as the one of the first grid-side energy storage projects in China, attracted much attention because of its new power station mode, tight schedule and heavy tasks. Mr. Hou visited the project site for many times and gave important instructions to guide the teams of the company to work actively for providing high-quality products, passing quality inspection, and making the project the first one put into operation.



Mr. Hou knew well that, to develop energy storage business, it is necessary to use CYG SUNRI’s know-how in power system that has been accumulated over the years, give full play to the rich experience in information and communication, PV power generation and electric vehicle charging, and seek for integrated and coordinated development with other types of business, so as to gain a firm foothold in the tide.


After completing the project of Changwang Energy Storage Station, CYG SUNRI started the construction of Changsha Furong Smart Energy Station under the leadership of Mr. Hou. This is China’s first grid-side indoor battery energy storage power station with the largest capacity. It is also the first demonstration “three-in-one” station in China. With the reuse and integration of land, data, energy and communication resources, and the spatial integration construction among multiple stations, the substation is built into a regional convergence node of power, communication and data, and it is the best practice of the strategy of “building enterprises serving as hubs, platforms and shared resources; and constructing strong smart grids and ubiquitous power IoT” in Hunan.


The intelligent car charging station project integrating “PV power generation/energy storage/charging” that was directed by Mr. Hou is an innovative application of microgrids in charging station construction. PV, energy storage and charging facilities form a microgrid. With the benign interaction between EMS energy management system and public power grid, the microgrid can operate in two modes (grid-connected and off-grid). Intelligent charging stations can use green energy to the greatest extent, not only reducing electricity cost for operation, realizing energy conservation and emission reduction, but also alleviating the impact of charging piles on local power grids when charging at high current. “Shenzhen Putian Minle Charging Station” was built by CYG SUNRI in the new construction mode. The charging station has become a national demonstration station for the promotion of electric vehicles in Shenzhen.


“Make breakthroughs in the red sea, and gain the blue sea in blue sea", Mr. Hou always inspires the technical team to find the right points and seek business breakthroughs. The company's energy storage business has experienced fast growth since then. By virtue of the strong technical strength of energy storage products, CYG SUNRI won two awards, namely the “2019 Award for the Most Influential Enterprise in China's Energy Storage Industry" and the "2019 Award for the Best Integrated Energy Service Provider in China's Energy Storage Industry".


It Is Necessary to Have Effective Tools to Do Good Work


Mr. Hou is also in charge of CYG SUNRI’s construction of quality management system. The systems for R&D maturity, information integration, information security, intellectual property, integration of IT application with industrialization, and information services have been established in advance to enhance the company's management ability and maintain the company’s leading position in the industry. With the gradual expansion of the company's business scope, Mr. Hou adjusted the business management system in time to achieve differentiated matching, and specially optimized the project management system to ensure high-quality implementation and delivery of major projects. He believed that it was urgent to build a professional and highly competent project management team. To this end, Mr. Hou selected capable ones in the company to build the project team, and actively explored social resources. In less than half a year, the PMO Department, a professional and energetic project team, was established, which effectively guaranteed the delivery of the company’s key projects and the continuous optimization of the professional operation process system.


In December, 2019, CGN’s 20MW PV power generation and 3MW/6MWh energy storage project in Yengisar, Xinjiang (CYG SUNRI was responsible for system integration for the project) was successfully connected to the grid, marking the official operation of the first PV & energy storage pilot project in Xinjiang. From project feasibility study, project approval, determination of design scheme, and overall equipment integration, to equipment deployment on the project site, it took only 45 days. CYG SUNRI adapted to the development needs, optimized the management system, setting a new record of faster delivery of a fully integrated energy storage system.

No matter how busy the work was, Mr. Hou always dressed up neatly, interpreting professionalism and concentration. “He can finish reading a book in almost one day." This is the real evaluation on Mr. Hou by his subordinates. Mr. Hou is very self-disciplined. After busy work, he studies unremittingly and often gives books to his subordinates as gifts. For deficiencies of his subordinates' work, Mr. Hou always gives guidance patiently. Mr. Hou can quickly and accurately finds the key points in discussions. For employees, Mr. Hou is a trustworthy leader.
