Remain true to the original aspiration! There words impressed the author most during the interview with Xu Chengbin, General Manager of CYG SUNRI.

When talking about the challenges faced by the company in the context of the digital transformation of the power system, and the promotion of ubiquitous power IoT and Digital China Southern Power Grid, Xu said that “it is the most difficult to remain true to the original aspiration! The construction of ubiquitous power IoT should not be for unwanted innovation, intelligence and digitalization. We should make innovation and create value to meet real needs. ”

In recent years, with the in-depth integration of new technologies such as "big data", "cloud computing" and "IoT" with smart grids, the power equipment manufacturing becomes more digitalized and intelligent. Enabling distribution networks to have a strong ability of data perception, efficient data transmission and processing is the key to build power distribution IoT. Xu Chengbin, General Manager of CYG SUNRI, pointed out that, “in the early stage of industry development, it is necessary to lay a solid foundation for long-term development in the future. There are two key factors, one is platform technology, and the other is application technology. ”

Build Ecosystem and a Platform to Support Ubiquitous Power IoT

The construction of ubiquitous power IoT at four levels is closely related to the continuous promotion and development of “cloud computing, IoT, mobile internet, big data, and smart city", and requires better cooperation among various subsystems of intelligent power distribution and use. Integration and intelligentization will become a development trend. However, for the development of ubiquitous IoT, manufacturers are faced with a number of problems in the research and development of equipment at perception layer, such as fragmentation of multi-systems and multi-standards, lack of tools for supporting development environment, poor security protection of terminal equipment, and difficult interconnection among various communication protocols.

At the 12th EP Shanghai, CYG SUNRI unveiled a product that attracted countless people's attention - HantanOS. As the first lightweight embedded operating system of IoT, in the industry, HantanOS will provide a new solution for users to build cloud integration. “HantanOS is a lightweight kernel, based on which we can develop functions and components suitable for different scenarios. The kernel and components have modular architecture design characterized by "low coupling and strong cohesion". Duan Junhuan, Manager of IoT Group of R&D Center, CYG SUNRI, introduced to BJX.com.cn that “according to the specific application scenarios and application, developers can combine the OS with different components to realize the required product design. That’s the reason why we adopt the lightweight design for the OS. ”

The combination of sensors and “data and intelligence" is an important feature of ubiquitous power IoT. Multi-sensor management, lightweight data processing and intelligent algorithms are sunk to the sensing terminals, and the edge computing capability of the terminals is fully utilized to realize cloud-terminal interactive and collaborative computing. Intelligent sensing terminals are the smallest sensing units of ubiquitous power IoT. They are actually like the original embedded devices. Generally embedded devices are applied in the power industry in two ways, one is that manufacturers directly write the codes on CPUs, which are dubbed by Mr. Xu as “naked" system, and the other is that general operating systems of foreign manufacturers are used. However, the two types of application obviously can't meet our state’s general requirements of maximizing the use of domestic equipment. We need to have our own operating system and chips to support the ubiquitous power IoT platform.

Meet Demand and Solve Problems, Empower Ubiquitous Power IoT in a Bottom-top Manner

“Power distribution IoT is an important application practice of ubiquitous power IoT in the power distribution field,” said Du Dongwei, Deputy Chief Engineer of the Primary & Secondary Distribution Network Integration Department of CYG SUNRI. “To build Ubiquitous power IoT is to build an ecosystem of smart power. Traditional power grids have some problems, such as insufficient customer perception, low intelligent level of equipment, and few shared resources and available services.” Therefore, State Grid Corporation proposed the goal of “building enterprises serving as hubs, platforms and shared resources; constructing strong smart grids and ubiquitous power IoT; and building world-class energy internet enterprises”, and proposed the construction plan based on the ubiquitous power IoT integrating "cloud-communication mode-edge computing-terminals", with the purpose of creating a top-bottom industrial chain ecosystem fully integrating cloud technology, communication, edge intelligence and intelligent sensing.

Solution of Intelligent Power Distribution and Use

The "bottom-up" practice and exploration of ubiquitous power IoT is mostly based on breakthroughs of “points"; The theoretical discussions on "top-down" ubiquitous power IoT is mostly based on a breakdown of “layers". Theoretically, there are four layers, namely the perception layer, the network layer, the platform layer and the application layer. Relevant experts have expanded the above-mentioned “four-layer" architecture. For example, at the "Ubiquitous Power IoT Intelligent Sensing Technology Forum”, Wang Jiye, President of State Grid Energy Internet Technology Research Institute, recently proposed a “five-layer" architecture, which integrates the sensing terminal layer, the edge layer, the network layer, the cloud layer and the artificial intelligence layer. It can be seen that the theories and construction of ubiquitous power IoT are constantly being optimized and adjusted.

All IoT solutions will be used in different application scenarios, while scenarios determines the orientation. Enabling distribution networks to have the ability of more powerful data perception and acquisition, more efficient data transmission and processing, and more flexible business response and realization is the key to the construction of power distribution IoT. Xu Chengbin, General Manager of CYG SUNRI noted that, “In the past, power grid information monitoring was mainly used for main networks, while blind dispatching was the common practice due to lack of monitoring of distribution network. The technology of distribution automation construction has been improved, but the monitoring by data terminals is only at the node-level. After ubiquitous power IoT was proposed, the problems found at the distribution network side will be solved one by one. ”

The IoT solution based on the architecture of "cloud-communication mode-edge computing-terminals" that is proposed by CYG SUNRI is guided by the strategic planning of all-service ubiquitous power IoT, with the purpose of realizing the intelligent IoT construction of distribution substations. Intelligent distribution and transformation terminals are connected to sensing terminals of the station through local communication, forming an architecture integrating "cloud-communication mode-edge computing-terminals” with remote communication and secure access. Therefore, unified access of business data, high-level data fusion and edge intelligence of the region can be realized.

◆The cloud platform is built based on the basic conditions such as the State Grid Cloud and All-service Data Center. The State Grid Cloud, which provides computing resources and supports application construction, is integrated with the All-service Data Center to achieve “application everywhere after input”. With the intelligent distribution and transformation terminals, “cloud-fog collaboration” can be to realized.

◆As "edge" equipment, the intelligent distribution and transformation terminal have the functions of unified access to local communication, edge computing, remote communication, etc. They provide remote communication interfaces such as wireless private network/public network and optical fiber Ethernet interfaces, and also provide local communication modes such as carrier wave, micro-power wireless communication, RS232/RS485 serial ports and Ethernet.

◆The subsystems such as the 0.4 kV low-voltage side electrical quantity acquisition terminal, the intelligent security system, the environmental monitoring system, the transformer monitoring system, the equipment state monitoring system and the video monitoring system, as well as the off-station intelligent equipment such as the charging pile and the distributed PV system, are connected to the intelligent distribution and transformation terminals via the local communication network, and then connected to the platform layer of power IoT via the remote communication network.

Xu Chengbin, General Manager of CYG SUNRI, believes that, if we endow distribution network equipment with sensitive and accurate sensing ability, and provide interconnection, intercommunication and interoperability functions among equipment, we can realize comprehensive sensing, data fusion and intelligent application of distribution networks, meet the needs of lean management of distribution networks, support the rapid development of energy Internet, and finally realize intelligent and convenient response services for users during electricity and energy use.

Innovation Is Driven by Real Demand, and We Create Value with Advanced Technologies!

At the end of the interview, General Manager Xu Chengbin noted that, CYG SUNRI will always follow the development route proposed by Changyuan Group, that is, further development in the field of digitalization and intelligentization of industrial and power systems. CYG SUNRI will continuously improve its know-how and technologies, promote the implementation of the power distribution IoT construction concept, and contribute to faster and better development of ubiquitous power IoT. Moreover, scientific and technological innovation is the core driving force for the sustainable development of Changyuan Group. CYG SUNRI will continuously develop advanced products and technologies according to the business and industry development trends, and keep creating and extending value for customers.
